On the Job by Anita Bruzzese When Youre The Obnoxious Twit

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese When You're The Obnoxious Twit Is there someone at your workplace that everyone pretty much despises? You know who I'm talking about -- the person who can take a perfectly nice day and ruin it just by showing up?Now, here's the million-dollar question: Is that person you? Most people can relate a few stories about some obnoxious co-worker who drives everyone nuts and has people plotting about how to get him or her fired. But what if its you that co-workers cant stand -- and you know it and want to change?Well, first you must realize that it isnt going to be easy. Whatever overbearing, anti-social and grating behavior put you at the top of the workplace most disliked list wont be erased immediately. But it can be done, and if it is accomplished successfully, you and your co-workers will benefit greatly. If you truly want to turn things around, then youve got to map out a strategy that will involve regaining the trust of co-workers and proving you are sincere. In other words, you've got to let go of the job strategy t hat says you don't need friends at work (you do) and you only need yourself for job success (wrong). One of the first steps is to find someone you can trust to help you regain the ground youve lost. While it may be difficult to find a close co-worker to help you, consider someone from human resources or an ombudsman who can discreetly help you test the waters. This person can get a true indication of where your mistakes have been made with co-workers, and what you need to do to correct them.At the same time, you and this third party should assure a supervisor that you want to make a sincere effort to mend fences. Then, you must begin changing your ways, showing others in the workplace that you know you have offended them, stepped on toes, and in general, been a pain in the ass.Still, despite your best efforts, some co-worker's opinions of you are going to be tough to change, particularly if you've undermined them in the past. But if you make inroads with at least a few people, they c an help smooth the way so that you begin to create a stronger bond than ever before. In this highly competitive global marketplace, it's very difficult if employees do not work together as a team and your co-workers may soon come to realize that your efforts will benefit them, as well. One other consideration: If your bad behavior has been the result of a personal problem (depression, divorce, alcohol), you might consider sharing that with co-workers, telling them that you're determined to turn things around. If you're unsure whether this is a good idea, you might want to discuss the details with your third party. In general, people are much more sympathetic to these issues in today's workplace, and may judge you less harshly if they understand the root causes of your bad behavior. Finally, keep in mind that dealing with your workplace conflicts now, rather than later, is important. Your reputation of being generally unlikable can become easily known through increased use of online ne tworking sites. In today's competitive workplace, that can be a mistake that haunts you now -- and in the future.del.icio.us

8 Healthy Pre-Sleep Habits For Better Sleep

8 Healthy Pre-Sleep Habits For Better Sleep A (wo)man who sleeps well is a (wo)man who lives well. Well, I havent said anything new. But the relevance of the statement springs from the alarming frequency with which we forget the importance of sleep. The civilized world has begun to neglect what could be the most important contributor to their health â€" sleep. Our habits dont allow a number of us to get proper and optimal sleep at night. They instead contribute to the very opposite. Here, we have listed a few habits that can help you fall asleep faster. And sleep better. Keep reading. Make Your Room Dark We often underestimate the power of light in keeping us awake. But even the most inconspicuous glow from a distant alarm clock can disturb us. So pull the curtains over and make your room totally dark. If requried, you can also use a comfortable eye-mask. Take A Hot Bath A rapid drop in body temperature induces sleep. To achieve this, you can take a hot bath or soak yourself in a hot water tub for about 20 minutes. When you take a hot bath, you are raising your body temperature by a couple of degrees. And when you walk out of your bathroom, there is a steep drop in temperature, which facilitates deeper sleep. Keep Your Room Cool The ideal temperature induces great sleep like no other. So ensure your room is somewhere between 15 to 19 degrees Celsius. The cooler, the better. But not too cold, though. Try A Leg Pillow For Back Pain Sleeping with back pain, well, is a pain. If you are suffering from back pain and are taking medications, it might take a while before you see improvement in your condition. However, you dont have to struggle to get some sleep. Simply place a pillow between your legs. This aligns your hips and minimizes stress on your lower back. Keep A Journal Oftentimes it could be our mind that keeps us from getting peaceful sleep. It could be some personal issue you are trying to sort out. Or your professional goals. It could be anything. Write it down. Just write your thoughts down so that you feel less anxious and free. A free mind induces great sleep. Once you have penned down your thoughts, you will find yourself drifting off to sleep in no time. Try Adding Gentle Sounds Heres the problem with keeping your room pin-drop silent while you sleep â€" even a slight disturbance in your surroundings can wake you up. The remedy? Adding gentle sounds, something like a white noise generator. It generates sounds that are soothing â€" like a pleasant breeze, a flowing stream, etc. White noise not only helps you fall asleep faster, it also disguises other noises that can be potentially disturbing to you.   Put Your Mobile In Silent Mode You can also turn it off. But in case you have an alarm set, you can put your phone in silent mode. This is important, and is something most of us forget to do. We might sleep, but our WhatsApp is forever on. Late night texts and pings can disrupt your sleep to a great extent.   Just put your phone in the silent mode and keep it away, at least an hour before bed. This can be one of the healthiest habits you can develop. Drink Something Warm And Relaxing A warm and relaxing beverage can soothe your mind. You can have a warm glass of milk or chamomile tea. In fact, most herbal teas are good. But ensure they dont contain caffeine. The quality of our habits determines the quality of our life, doesnt it? And so does the quality of our sleep. Make these actions your habits and see your life get better and better! Images via Pixabay.

Those Darn Kids...

Those Darn Kids... I am quickly approaching another birthday and am reminded of how old I am when I watch20-something year olds. They are un-intimidated by new technology. They actuallylook forward to figuring out new functionality. They are unaffected by the world around them. Recession, what recession. They dowhat they want to do. They can stay out until 2 am and sleep in until Noon. As I write each of these statements, I do so with a bit of jealously mixed with a tad of distain. I was talking with some fellow trainers and mentioned the need for a training session on workplace etiquette. It would cover such things as how to shake hands and look someone in the eye to how to act appropriately in a meeting. Well, then, define appropriately said one colleague. Quickly I said, it is not ok to text message while in a meeting, that is disrespectful. According to who? The older generation who dont do it they asked me. Shoot, trapped again I thought. Who defines appropriate business conduct/etiquette? Do we hold on to the unwritten laws of our parents generation? I cant yet answer this the way I think I should. I do know that different companies have different accepted sets of etiquette. Therefore, when investigating a new company for employment, you need to be sure there is a cultural fit.You cant change culture. If you are really open minded, you can try to adapt or cope. This can take enormous energy, be careful. Just dont be judgemental. It isnt a matter of right or wrong, just different.

Some Tips For Resume Writing Mobile Al

Some Tips For Resume Writing Mobile AlMobile al includes a variety of steps to help make your resume writing mobile optimized. A computer is not necessary, but you will need an Internet connection for some parts of the process. Although mobile websites are available that allow you to upload your resume, a good method is to use a resume writing program, which converts your resume into a PDF format that you can print.A good tip is to organize the pages so that they flow from left to right rather than top to bottom. This will make them easier to scan, and they will also be much easier to fit on the page. Your goal should be to ensure that the resume looks organized, but that it flows easily from page to page. The most important aspect of this process is to divide your resume into sections. Each section should have a title, information about the job, and a summary of your background. You may want to include your resume name and the names of previous employers in each section. In the place of a cover letter or statement of purpose, you should have your contact information.Writing your resume content in the first person, will increase the chances that the reader will click on the cover letter section. In this case, you should focus on the skills you are looking for, as opposed to the responsibilities. You may include an objective, if applicable, and then list the skills you are looking for. Do not include a summary of your qualifications here.Your objective in mobile al is to ensure that your strengths and weaknesses are clearly stated. In addition, you should provide examples of work you did when the project was complete. You may want to emphasize that these jobs were 'personal projects.' However, you should be sure to spell your first name correctly and avoid abbreviations like 'smarts'passion.'The next step of resume writing mobile al involves editing. Use the template available for every section of your resume. Start with the second paragraph of your resume and th en use the template for all other paragraphs. If you can, use a non-substituted font for the first paragraph. This will ensure that the entire resume is legible.Although this step is fairly basic, it is a good idea to make a few changes to your resume writing mobile al. Be sure to eliminate the blank spaces by moving any text that is in the space before the word 'continue' to the beginning of the line. You may also want to remove any references to vacations and other trips that do not relate to the position you are applying for.Resume writing mobile al also requires you to be careful about wording and grammar. If you do not make it clear that you are referring to this position, you are using the correct term. Use proper grammar and spellings throughout the resume.
